In response to Shane Molloy’s interesting editorial in the EMI newsletter of 13th inst.

The European Union was built through a processing agreement between European parliamentary democracies, where the treaties are signed by the governments and the ratification takes place in national parliaments – where those governments have their majority and their legitimacy – and where the government engages its political responsibility, and normally resigns if the majority of the parliament disapproves it. There is an understanding of the consequences of a no vote, and the government is there to react to “misconceptions” before the vote.
